If you are looking for a place to rest your weary soul there are few options for comparison with the small patch of sky known as Highlands, North Carolina. You'll find this quaint little pause in the southwest corner of North Carolina, located in the Appalachian Mountains. This area, which is in the middle of National Forest Nantahala is a sight to see. Although the population in the highlands is only a thousand people that change during the tourist season, when approximately 15 times that amount is drawn to the area for relaxation and recreation. That is a huge collection, but when did it start?

The town of Highlands, North Carolina was created back in 1875.
